WORKERS WELFARE, BENEFITS, INSURANCES

	The OVERSEAS WORKERS WELFARE ADMINISTRATION (OWWA) is an agency in the Philippine government attached to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). The agency has a two-fold mandate : to provide welfare assistance to registered overseas workers and their dependents and to ensure the viability of the Fund. This twin mandate presents a continuing challenge for OWWA to strike the right balance in managing and safekeeping the Fund while at the same time extending programs and services to its rightful beneficiaries. With the recent promulgation of the Migrant Workers and the Filipino Act of 1995, OWWA is expected to strengthen and expand its mantle of services for the Filipino Overseas contract workers and his family.
