PRESS RELEASE: KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE 2012- DISASTER RISK REDUCTION MANAGEMENT & CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION

Date:
02/07/2012

From being merely an academic subject matter, Climate Change has evolved to being the most complicated issue the world faces. Climate Change has become "the environmental issue" encompassing factors affecting the people's quality of life - economics, health, food production and security. Climate Change is a worldwide phenomenon and the Philippines has not been spared by its effects.

Today, we experience unpredictable and wilder weathers, higher temperatures, warmer oceans and rising sea levels. In coping with these, we mist learn to be adaptable, be resilient and be prepared. Collaboration and an open communication among institutions and individuals are vital in equipping stakeholders of adaptability practices.

Recognizing the need for collaboration, communication and partnerships, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) through the Local Government Academy (LGA) and the Spanish Government through Agencia Espanola de Cooperacion Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID) present a knowledge exchange activity providing opportunities for local and international experts, and local and national officials to share and learn different trends and practices, particularly the river basin approach on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA).

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) brings to us resource persons from Manitoba, Canada and the Institute of Public Administration Canada (IPAC) for this knowledge exchange event. Their expertise and knowledge will be supplemented with the discussion on the Philippine policies and experiences on CCA and DRRM by the Climate Change Commission, the Office of Civil Defense, select local government units and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The Knowledge Exchange 2012: DRRM and CCA will be held on February 10, 2012 at the Hotel Rembrandt in Quezon City, Philippines.
