PRESS RELEASE: PROVINCIAL GOVERNORS TO CRAFT THEIR FIRST 100 DAYS AGENDA

The country's provincial governors are expected to craft their First 100 Days Agenda for their respective provinces on June 24, 2010 during the start of the second phase of the Newly Elected Officials (NEO) Program being implemented by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) through the Local Government Academy (LGA) at the Hotel Kimberly, Tagaytay City.

DILG Secretary Ronaldo V. Puno said the Department assist the neophyte and reelected provincial governors in the formulation of their First 100 Days Agenda which is a rundown of the critical first steps that they have to take as soon as they assume office on July 1 of this year.

"This part of the NEO prorgam will help the relatively inexperienced, newly minted local chief executives in performing their specific tasks and responsibilities as managers of local development", Puno said.

Among those who confirmed their participation to the training program are: Governors Hermogenes Abdane of Zambales, Lilia Pineda of Pampanga, Jorge Ejercito Estregan of Laguna, Faustino Dy III of Isabela, Junie Cua of Quirino and Edgardo Chatto of Bohol.

The modules in the training are: Financing LGU Operations, which will enable the participants to understand the financial conditions of their LGUs, learn the sources of local revenue and alternative external sources, and formulate financial strategies; Understanding My Environment; the Local Official as an Agent for Development; Common Pitfalls in LGU Management; and Jumpstarting the First 100 Days Governance.

Expected guests are DILG Undersecretary for Local Government, Austere Panadero, LGA Executive Director Marivel Sacendoncillo, League of Provinces in the Philippines (LPP) President Loreto Ocampos.

Since June 15, 2010, different cluster orientations are expected to be implemented Tagaytay City, Ormoc City, Cebu City and Cebu City in the next few weeks.

The NEO Program, which is being carried out with the assistance of the DILG bureaus and regional offices in partnership with the Philippines Development Forum (PDF) and the Leagues of Local Governments, is divided into 4 components, namely: Ensuring Smooth Transition, Laying the Foundation (with three tracks - My First 100 Days in Office, Knowing My LGU and Fine Tuning My Competencies), Building Alliances and Sharpening the Saw.
